Durham County, NC

Featured Local Charity Partner:

KidBright USA is addressing hunger in public schools by building a community-based volunteer network delivering free healthy snacks to classrooms with children in need. During the 2017/2018 year we are building our program to serve all students at Hope Valley Elementary, Forest View Elementary and Shepard Middle Schools. Hunger in Durham Public Schools is real with 8+ students in the average Durham classroom living in food insecure households. For these children, school breakfast and lunch may be their only meals of the day meaning hunger can directly and negatively impact their educational experience. Education is key to breaking the cycle of poverty. When hunger impedes education, then a child’s prospects of moving beyond poverty are diminished. Our mission at KidBright USA is to help bring healthy snacks to hungry students!

Diaper Bank of North Carolina

Did you know that public safety net programs such as The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, previously known as Food Stamps) do not cover the purchase of diapers or sanitary supplies?

The vision of Diaper Bank of NC is that every family in North Carolina will have access to basic necessities to support their dignity, health, and quality of life.  We work with community organizations to distribute diapers, feminine hygiene, and adult incontinence products to families living with poverty.   No one should have to decide  between buying diapers and other necessities with their limited funds.
